ABOUT

MISSION

The mission of the Iva Elementary School Library is to support and encourage students and teachers to be effective seekers and users of information.  Our goal is to provide students with the skills they need to become life-long readers and confident researchers.

LIBRARY SCHEDULE

Our library is open everyday from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm. Students and families are welcome to come into the library to find books, read, conduct research, work in our makerspace, use the computers, discuss books, and much more!  Classes visit the library once a week during their scheduled library time.

SCHOOL LIBRARIAN

Hi!  I'm Mrs. Fortner, and I am your school librarian!  I live in Anderson with my husband, Brandon, and our two daughters, Kendel and Bailee.  I love to read and I love to travel, and it just so happens that those two hobbies go great together!  In the summers, my family and I spend a lot of time in our camper visiting lots of different places and reading lots of great books!

I have been a teacher at Iva Elementary for twelve years.

During my time at Iva, I have taught 4th Grade Writing and Social Studies and 3rd Grade Math, Writing, and Social Studies.  Before coming to Iva, I was a sixth grade teacher at Starr-Iva Middle School.  This is my second year as the school librarian, and I am so excited to get to share this adventure with you!

LIBRARY PROCEDURES

Rules and Consequences

Take care of the books, take care of the library, and take care of each other!

Students who choose to behave irresponsibly will lose library privileges.

Checkout and Return Policies

Students in Kindergarten may check out one book at a time.  First and second-graders are allowed to take out two books at a time, and 3rd-5th graders may check out up to three books at a time. Books may stay checked out of the library for two weeks.  Students are welcome to renew checkouts by bringing the book in.  No late fees will be charged, but new books may not be checked out until previous books have been returned.  Students are responsible for lost or damaged books, and will be charged an appropriate fee to cover the cost of the book.
